VOCÊ TAMBÉM ME LEMBRA A ALVORADA

In 1982, the Alvorada do Iguaçu village was completely submerged for the construction of Lake Itaipu. In 2018, through a Facebook group, the former residents of the village met again after more than 30 years of separation, and to this day they share their memories, losses, experiences and longings. Alvorada today lives not only through photos and memories, but in the physical and virtual encounter between its former residents and descendants.

The long term project Você Também me Lembra a Alvorada intends to draw a parallel between the rescue of Lino Fontana's Ball with the current preparations and celebrations that the people of Alvorada are planning for their second meeting. Thus, we want to give shape to cultural, social, affective and even political memories that were lost with the end of dances, community life and with the complete submersion of Alvorada.

Through interviews with people who had a voice in the village of Alvorada and those who currently struggle to keep the community together, the film will accompany them with how the final preparations for the much-desired union will be made and also everything that comes with it: assemblies, masses, testimonies, memories of struggles. And then, in order to aim for a more material contact with Alvorada, we will also capture underwater images of the old Vila, as its ruins remain intact under the lake of Itaipu and still reveal the structure that once sheltered the lives of the people that the film portrays.

Not all stories linked to the construction of Itaipu ended in a reunion. The Official History tells us more about the benefits and magnitude of Itaipu than about its consequences. However, the history of Alvorada do Iguaçu is an example that the facts that appear in the annals of history are not able to express the countless facets of the same event.
